Shavuot Two-Day Festival: The Jewish Hajj
Shavuot (meaning: Weeks), one of our three major pilgrimage festivals, celebrates the giving of the Torah at Sinai. The traditional greeting is Ḥagg Sameaḥ. The word hagg, pilgrimage festival, is known widely by its Arabic cognate, hajj, meaning the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca.
Services on Monday, May 17 and Tuesday, May 18 will begin at 9:30 am in the parking lot or main sanctuary. (The decision about location will be made on Sunday, May 16th before yom tov and will be based upon the weather forecast and public health considerations).
