What connects us is our deep care for Israel and its future, the ties between American Jewry and Israel, and an appreciation of the complexities of all of these. We see the need for a place at BEKI where these issues can be honestly and critically discussed by listening well to one another, notwithstanding our different perspectives. We will meet approximately once per month to learn from one another by discussing pre-circulated articles, book chapters, or opinion pieces. We will look into inviting guest speakers to our future meetings.
We will also consider organizing larger fora for the broader BEKI and New Haven Jewish communities with the intent of exposing these broader audiences to multiple perspectives, but within limits to be determined. In all of these formats, we hope to model respectful, informed disagreement regarding Israel in all of its complexity for BEKI members of various ages.
